I had a chat with HP yesterday and they came up with the same part number for the 256 MB cache upgrade. It does not seem as though I'm going to have a choice with the P410i though. I'd rather not have the drives tainted by a hardware-based RAID-0. Ideally I'd like a similar setup in the M元50 G6 by giving the SAN virtual machine direct access to the hard drives. Some of my virtual machines require dedicated spindles which is why I don't want to do hardware RAID. This gives me real-time, block level, onsite and offsite replication of my SAN. I then have a DL160 G6 offsite with a similar setup also running DRBD. I have another ML150 G5 setup the same way acting as the other DRBD mirror. The 4 hard drives are run through DRBD first and then shared out via NFS. The virtual machine acting as a SAN is running Ubuntu. ![]() This means my SAN data could be pulled out of the ESXi server and placed in a physical server without a problem. One of those drives is used by ESXi and the others are made available to the virtual machine as raw devices and not with VMFS on top of them first. That server has 5 hard drives directly connected to the motherboard. ![]() The old server is an ML150 G5 from 2008 that is beginning to have some odd hardware issues. I'm trying to move a virtual machine that is acting as a SAN from older hardware to newer hardware.
